Peak Putters - Ahtanum South Fork snow run - March 9th, 2008

We headed up the South Fork and found plenty of snow. The snow was hard going, about 4-6 inches of crust on top that you could sort of crawl on, but as soon as you broke through it was pure fluffy snow underneath and real easy to become stuck.

It was a fun run, it was a challenging day and everyone got stuck .

At one point we were all stuck except Aaron (Stennis31).

Lots and lots of shoveling and everyone's winch got a good workout. Hopefully in a few weeks the snow will start to firm up more.

Gee, I didn't even go on the run and I got stuck...working on the yard, sanding dry wall, cleaning up the house...etc...

That was a great time even if the snow was unforgiving. Thanks for letting those of us with less peak putting experience (lower case used intentionally) come along.

I think Dave (pinkeye) owned the day. In a relatively stock TJ with open diffs, high gears and, for the day, no 4-lo he did really well. Really showed me up with my lockers and what not. And, nice to meet Aaron (Stennis31) who is a brave soul. Driving to a snow run in an open Jeep.

We are using baling wire to try and run my winch. (Have not been able to prove that it is my remote, i.e. intermittent problem, but I'll have the damn thing figured out before I am in the snow again. )

Good question on the decals I've got a couple quarter windows on my truck that need some decoration pretty bad

I just wanted to thank everyone for letting me join you on the snow run I had a blast and hope I can run with you guys again. As for going on the snow run in an open Jeep, you just wear lots of layers.

Thank-you everyone for letting me tag along and for the help when I was stuck. Lee, thanks for the compliment, but owning the day-- I think not...that award is definately for Roy and his "crawl anywhere I want" Jeepster! I was laughing my a$$ off when he took a right and just crawled up that hill in the goof off area. Danny's YJ was also impressive---hmm, so was Dave's Commanche. I think everyone had their moments. Also sorry for the embarrassly shiny wheels but after that run, a winch is going to have to be my next investement instead of ditching the chrome wheels. Thanks again--will post pics if I can figure out how to do it.

It truely was a great run, one of the best in a while. Like everyone said, stuck was the rule for the day....NO ONE WAS EXEMPT.

I only have one thing to add and that has to do with the Rubicon....Why isn't it called a rubican? Sorry Lee.

Lee found out a new way to turn around on a narrow mountain road when you're stuck broadside...a winch from the arse and one from the nose.

There are 5 stuck rigs in this photo...can you find them all...at least it was a good anchor for pulling each other out.


We're both stuck and the strap between us was so tight you could tight rope walk on it. It took mechanicals means to get us separated.


Of course a run like this wouldn't be complete without a scenry shot like this.


Finally I had to include one of my shotty Pete. He just moved back to the area. His wrangler is in Bend right now but should be up here for the spring runs.

Looks like a good group and a lot of fun. I'm going to Moab the first full week of April so I probably won't see you on the trail until mid to late April.

Hey, we just wanted to say thanks for a good day of jeepin' this past Sunday...or should we say day of wenchin' and diggin'. We were glad to meet everyone - and our neighbor Lee. We did take some pics and will try and upload them later on. We'll keep an eye out for the next trip.
