Don,

FWIW, If you can make it work...really consider the Bambar. I have seen it done both ways. There is a major down side to the trianglated wrap-up bar with a shackle at the end. Believe it or not, during a tough hill climb, the wrap-up bar will act like a big lever and lift up on the body of the vehicle. Your rig may end up doing a funny/violent hop. It is hard on the drive train and you will loose traction when you want it the most.

Steve,

Now that I've relooked at this, I already have a cross member in the right spot, and all the bushings to make this work. My only concern would be welding to the cast center section. But, I may be able to figure that out ....

Thanks!

What is the springy looking jobber that goes in the lower radiator hose to keep it from crushing called? Know where I can find a new one?

My lower hose is crushing at high RPM, which is part of my problem, but it is still wanting to over heat at idle. Not much air is moving through the radiator at idle. I'm going to order a fan and shroud tonight.

Good observation... the universal hose I bought from Schuck as more than twenty bucks. Maybe you could make one out of a coat hanger? Cheap Trick Idea???

As far as the bambar v.s. trianglated bars goes, the "jacking" Steve is refering to can be greatly over come by add length. The twisting action from the axle can kill spring and driveline parts if a short arm is used, but leverage is you freind on this one. If I remember correctly, the bambar takes a good chunk on room between the axle and the crossmember. Although it looks Don has the clearance right now, I would hate to see him fabricate himself in to a box on this one, "incase" he ever thought about lowering his 7 . . . .

Don't worry too much about the problems screaming toylet is talking about. You only see that when its built wrong. Put it on the passenger side of the diff, build it long and flat and it will work fine.

This should pull some air. I ordered the 19" version. I've got my HVAC guy lined out to build me a shroud http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/1847,30_Heavy-Duty-Aluminum-Cooling-Fan.html :D

Rochester carb is on its way. I'm hoping to pull a duraspark set up off of something at the wrecking yard this weekend ....

Don, why did you bail on the Ford Carb? I am running a Rock dual jet (2G) in my Toyota and it does handle the angles well. Funny thing, the Jeeper's Bible has a Table showing two lists of Carbs: Tossers and Keepers. The dual jet is on both lists...

Could be that there are two different 2-jet carbs. The one Don is getting, which runs better than the Ford carb at angles, and the one that is 1/2 of a quadrajet that isn't good for anything. 8)

Correction to my earlier post... It was a Chevy Performance Handbook had the Roch 2G carb as a keeper and a tosser. This book is all out V8s and HP. I seem to recall that my dad really like it when he had it on his old CJ. In addition, I think Gary S. and Dan H. are running them on their jeep and seem to get along just fine. Lastly, I am running a pre-electronic Roch Dual Jet on the Toyota... The one that is not good for anything

Well, I figured worst case I'm out $30. The Motorcraft seems to run pretty rich, plus I fight the choke on it. I figure I'll give the Rochester a try. At least now I'll have a good comparison. It will be something to get me by until I can save enough pennies for propane 8)

Grrr ... fan doesn't f'ing fit  Not enough space between water pump and radiator. Back to the drawing board.

Ouch! I've heard tell of some guys putting in the 2 spd fan out of a Taurus, but that was in a Scout II. Might be worth a shot, tho. Can you trade with the guys you got it from? Something thinner?

Taurus fan was plan A. Radiator would have to be moved forward to make it work as well. I don't think the place I got it from carries anything else but flex fans. Guess I have to track down a stock clutch fan ... which mean $$$ for new ones.

Grrrr .... Damn jeep. I spent an hour or so driving around the subdivision trying to get it to overheat and the highest I saw was 200 deg ... woo hooo. So I stop to investigate a "new" vibration, grabbed the driveshaft to discover I've got about 3/4"+ of slop in my rear pinion ... lucky me, looks like I didn't get the setup right :(

The frustrating thing is I don't know what happened. Everything was in spec when I set it up a year ago. The backlash was a on the tight side, but still within spec. I knew it was tight, so for the first several drives I checked to make sure it wasn't hot. I wonder it's something stupid like my bearing caps coming loose or something? I'm going to wait to tear it for a bit, I need to keep it mobile. This time I might take it to Al. I think he's around $300 including hardware to do a setup.

Did you re-use a pinion nut? Maybe it came loose. . .

Nope, brand new pinion nut. I used one from the hardware store to do setup, then put the new lock nut on last thing ... I think.
