well its finaly here a willys pickup
i scored 2 well more like 1 and half for 400 bucks
and on with the pics
this is the one ill be keeping


dont know the year yet but its got a 4 cyl in it that im workin on starting and it seems to have a 44 in the rear but havent checked it out all the way
this one has a straight 6 and the rear end is like 2 peice of somethin wierd but its got 2 rusted out springs in the back and no floor so its getting junked except for a few items

Man, what a memory this conjures up I learned to drive in my Grandad's '53 Jeep truck, and Susan was driving her Dad's '50 Wagon when we started dating in 1968 He had just got a '63 at auction from the USFS, and gave her the old one

as of right now the plan is to put the willys body onto my chevys frame or build a fram mount the drivetrain outta my truck in it with the willys body

but so far it looks like everything around the top and windsheild seem to be solid just needs a new floor rockers and corners unless i decide to boatside it

The other on is likely a '48 or '49. The flatter grill with no cross bars is the clue.

well i took the bad one to the recyclers got 379 for it so including gas ive got 70 bucks in the one ive got left.........and i got it to run today and cleaned it out floors are shot but no more than expected

havent done much since ive been workin non stop and was at a truck show this weekend
but heres a little update
cut off the cow catcher front bumper

with the bed off and rear bumper cut off (notcie only one solid crossmember left from the cab back

the driver side floor cut out

the rockers were gone so i just trimmed up to where everything became solid again while keeping all the body lines

and this little baby runs after sitting since 62 and like a champ at that

Hard to believe a 4 banger in something that big, ain't it The one my Grandad had would go just about anywhere, but only topped out at maybe 50 or so I still like the wagons...

shoot im suprised theyd do 50?! my 64 j-200 was about maxed with 4.88's the 3spd 230 tornado at about 35

yea Id like to get ahold of a wagon to make a extended cab truck (If you cant tell Im more of a truck guy)

well my 5th irok has been baught and recieved so now ive got a full set plus a spare
however Ive got a motor swap to do in my stepside motors out now with the other one awaiting the acc. swap and tbi stuff thrown on before it gets stuffed in then it will be back to the willys

well its time to start back on this bab since my other project is nearing its end so tomarrow will consist of fixing the exhaust on my dd then time to start making the floor and lifting the body of the chevy off the frame so I can start didlin with the frame

chevy body sits on the ground and the willys now has a 90% done floor
maybe ill lift the willys cab tomarrow since i gotta go to work now

willys cab is off the frame workin on gettin a steel order together for tubing and everything to make body mounts

will start workin on getting the body cleaned up and in some primer

A lot of old memories. My first vehicle was a 51 Willy's Jeep Station Wagon, and that was in 1957. Had a four banger in it. Would do 50 on the level roads, but sure didn't like them hills on the highway much. And the old vacuum windshield wipers just quit the minute you started up a hill. LOL

I notice that there is a pretty decent looking 50-53 green Willy's pickup sitting in a field on the right hand side of the hiway going from Colfax to Pullman. The owner has a sign in the bed of the pickup. Sort of a heart breaker really to see it just sitting out in the field as that buggy would really make a nice looking rig.

my tubing will be here tomarrow and ill start makin body mounts soon too but before i mount the body ill be taking it to my buddys where we can sandblast the entire body

body is being worked on fixing the few rust holes around the body and then gettin it into primer is numero uno right now so i can get it back to my house

well i havent updated my thread in a while the body is in primer and waitin to be put on the frame..........im now at college and last time i was home i started lining everything up and i should be able to toss the body on fairly quicklyi think ill be notching the grill out and maybe frenching the fram up into the body some so that it doesnt si at a mile high like some of the swaps ive seen ill make sure to caatch some pics when i go home next time

didnt get my body thrown on these last couple days just been workin on my dads 4 door 57 chevy and doin little things like changin lights to 12 volt in the willys

today I got my front body mounts welded on used some channel that was layin around

welds didnt come out too bad for not welding at all in the last 3 months

replaced my 4" leaf springs with some 56"ers with 3 (main mid and a mid bottom) and did a double shackle set up still have some bracing to do and need to get a bushing as mine ate a bolt that wont come out


and since i dont have any of the cab in primer for you here we go with one little fun one

well today i got some work done dropped the truck onto small tires git a little t/o'd:p because i got the slip again today because no one showed up to give me a hand to put the body on fawck it ill do it my self and before ya know it it goes from sittin on the frame to lookin like this



started doin up my seat mounts got one mount left to weld up and wouldnt ya know i run out of wire:homer:
then started to look at this mess its 7' long right now so i plan to chop 12" or more out id like a 110" wheel base but then id have no bed space left i will probly go to a 110-115 anyways

Because he wasn't to guarantee that he'll be "that guy" on the first outting in that rig. Everything looks alright other than that hanger/shackle setup... There is ghetto then there is garbage. Sorry to say that part is scary to say the least....

it still will be at least a year till my truck sees trail duty and that will be adressed when i move the axle forward 12"s

as for the why a double shackle setup will give major droop on flex.........the more i think about it when i redo the rear of my truck i plan on doin a long shackle off a 2x6 rear bumper

and yes i do realize that it came out extremely jacked

this is what i was thinkin.
im waitin to shorten the frame and driveshaft for when i either put in a doubler or if i can pick up a np208 input id like to start makin a double trans.........theres a good write up pirate and a buddy of mine has the tools id need

Double shackles are axle wrap inducing machines.... Especially with the rear of the leaf being mounted lower than the fixed end. It will have so much anti-squat you won't be able to handle it... Raise the shackle mount and use a single longer shackle. Keep the spring eye's on about the same level, put the shackle end a bit higher if you can help it and it'll work far better. Especially if you are going to dual trannies. All that reduction will show up in axle wrap if you don't.
