84 Scrambler
From what I understand if you have a 3.54 or a 4.09 ratio in the rear axle you could run a 3.55 ratio or a 4.10 in the front respectively. A few one hundredths should be fine and wont bind in 4wd.

Turns out the WT D44 rear did have 3.73's after all. And the front has 3.31's. It binds just a "little"
Guess a PO had a R&P failure from the looks of the carrier, a few small dents and nicks shouldn't be that big of a problem, right?
So yesterday DJ, Chrispy and I dove into the Scrambler, found the problems and started making phone calls. Got the gears from TjDave, only to find out LP D30 TJ's use a different pinion than older stuff

Go see if you can find the rear that came out of Steve's Scout. It may be that high...If the thing is still at the yard.

From looking at this your options are few for a axle swap in the time frame you wanted...

Will a YJ starter work in the 8? This one drives me nuts, super loud!
Oh yeah, shouldn't the crank pulley be lined up with the accessories? Think the little guy is trying to walk off the crank. Think l may need to tighten the bolt more than hand tight!
Also, how much play can you have in the waterpump shaft?

Or you could be incredibly lazy and use two solenoids. I may or may not have done that on my mustang when I upgraded to a modern starter.....
Thats not lazy if you have a chevy with headers, thats a fix for the hot solenoid blues!
