carb rebuild
does anyone know how to rebuild a carb? or would like to teach/help me rebuild mine?

Zach, what year is your rig? The rochester dual jet is not a bad carb, but some use electronic emission stuff. You may want to get one from a pre 80s rig. I seem to remember reading that a motorcraft 2100 may be a good option for a 4.2li.

im trying to go with the cheapest route. my carb has vacuum lines coming from it and all that jazz, i would like to replace it eventually but i dont want to start tearing out the lines and causing more problems. if its about the same price to rebuild or get a rochester then ill go with the latter. then maybe i can get rid of that swiss cheese air breather ive got on there now and eliminate a few vacuum lines. but im on a very tight budget right now so cheap cheap cheap.

Seriously, toss the Carter and get a Rochester. Pull all the vacuum crap, and get the thing to run like it should...You can use the routing in the Scout as a guide.

I have the single-barrel stock carb from my 2.5 you can have if it'll fit. I believe it is the same carb used on the 6-cylinder engines. I think it's the one they are saying to avoid, though, since it says "Carter / Weber" on it.
If you want to rebuild your carb, try Nine to Nine or AAW for a kit. They are probably around $40.

ill call paw this week and see what they got, if they dont have a rochester ill just rebuild mine i think. oh and lurch, im gonna duct tape those holes in my air breather for now. lol

2x on the motorcraft 2100 conversion. Had a friend do this on his Scout (with a 258), made a huge difference.

E-bay has some conversion kits but the parts aren't hard to source, well, the that style of carb might be a little harder to find since none have been made for close to 30yrs.

that motorcraft conversion sounds good. im intrigued. i am willing to go for it, if any of y'all would like to help me out it would me much appreciated. i dont want to mess it up, or buy the wrong parts for that matter. lol I have the next however long i want off from work due to my recent unemployment. so im available whenever to go for this.
