the man is bitching and crying we (HE) can't figure out why, its a cj willies/5 1956, has the ford302 motor and does fine on side streets but when we hit the highway it hits 250 degrees? so confusing why~

My guess is a partially clogged radiator. Get someone with one of those fance dancy point a shoot laser thermometers and point it at different parts of the rad and see if you have cold spots. (Or use your hand.)
Okay, we're a little crazy to have a Duramax for a daily driver. But if we go off our meds, we might wind up in a Prius.

Seen lots of things cause this sort of issue over the years... Check the easy stuff first: coolant level, mixture, radiator cap gasket, anything covering the radiator or an excessive amount of bent-over fins, stuff like that. Then you need to look into coolant flow issues: plugged radiator, eroded blades on the water pump, or even a bad radiator hose that is sucking in during higher RPM use. Cooling systems are not complex at all, and it's usually simple stuff that gives you grief...
