Just for the record 2.9l's don't blow head gaskets. They crack heads.

:quoi I put head gaskets in an '88 Ranger 2.9L v6 at about 90k miles, and proceeded to drive it to nearly 200k throughout high school and college before selling it to buy a brand new '99 Ranger...

Then you are one of the lucky few. Most crack the heads. You don't find many blown head gaskets on vehicles with cast iron heads. Most blown head gaskets are on vehicles with aluminum heads. Mostly do to the different expansion rates of aluminum verses cast iron blocks.

That being said I have seen a few external head gasket leaks on the 2.9 and 4.0.
