QUIET big block mufflers?

Put duals on the "new" tow pig, and it turned out a wee bit louder than anticipated... Anyone got info on a free-flowing muffler than is QUIET?

For reference, this is a Ford 460 with long-tube headers, dual 2.5" pipes with an 'H' pipe, no cats (shhhh :wink:

), and Dynomax mufflers. Tailpipes exit behind the rear tires. Sounds great at cruise speed in OD (~2200RPM), but when it hunkers down into 3rd to pull a hill with the Toy Hauler behind it (~3100RPM), she's L-O-U-D :shock:

Wifey does not approve, need to resolve before I can go on the next trip, so hopefully that will motivate some of you guys to help me find a resolution. Hint hint, nudge nudge :lol:

How about this.....loose the mufflers and get something different. :?:

I'm sure some unsuspecting person will pick the up. That probaby didn't help but it was fun. :lol2

By the way, is there anything about that hauler that the wife does like :?:

i actualy have the cheap raptors from schmucks and they arent that loud and theyre cheap

You'd have to hunt for the diameter, but most of the newer rigs with V8s have gigantic, enormous mufflers. the one in the Grand Cherokee, for example, is about 2.5' long and super quiet.

Well, so far I have clocked 236 hours in past 16 days, with today being that 16th day and it's only 11:30am... Does that count as extra? :lol:

The wife loves the toy hauler? Or are you referring to the "new" truck? She's not a real fan of the truck, but that's mostly because it's loud... :roll:

I've run those on a V8 before, and for reference, they are louder than my current setup... Thanks for the input though!

That's what I got rid of to run the duals... I suppose I could run (2) of a factory replacement muffler under there, but I dunno how badly that would choke me down? I need to keep the good airflow, just drop the db level...

I was refering to the truck. You mentioned "new" truck. I'm assuming you mean the FORD!

Yup, "new" in quotes because it's new to me, but certainly NOT a new truck... But hey, can't beat the payments :wink:

My dad runs a generic replacement "truck" muffler on his 460. The muffler is huge, thus pretty quiet. You might also look into the Flowmaster 50+ series truck/ big block mufflers.
