ATV Users Hammered

Closed area ATV users hammered

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In our sunday paper was an article about two different cases about a week apart where atv users were on Longview Fiber land, behind locked gates, up in Marion County, Oregon last fall. In the first 5 were fined and court costs in addition to $500.00 each restitution to the land owner (just under a grand total for each of them) and Longview banned them from being on Longview ground for 5 years. The other case was two people and they got hit with the same fines, costs and restitution, and Longview banned them from their property for life.

Now if we can get the other courts to start getting that tough, alot of the violations we see would go away in a hurry

Kudos to the court in Marion County

I don't know how many guys are hunters on this forum.....

nothing is worse then hiking behind a "closed to atv use" road for hours only to be interupted by people on ATVs. It's nice to finally see the law drop the hammer....

Okay, we're a little crazy to have a Duramax for a daily driver. But if we go off our meds, we might wind up in a Prius.

Hunter thoughts on off-road vehicle penalties
By Bethanie Walder

February 11, 2010

Eastmans’ Hunting Journal recently posted a poll to their readers about ATV violations and penalties. While it’s not a scientific poll, and they didn’t list how many people responded to the poll, the hunters who did respond overwhelmingly supported stronger penalties for ATV violations. The results were released in the February/March 2010 issue of the journal.

Here are just a few of the quotes from respondents that Eastmans highlighted:

"I am a responsible ATV owner and voted D [see below]. I have seen some of my favorite areas destroyed. Just because you own an ATV doesn’t give you the right to ride wherever you want."

"ATVs are the single biggest reason why we don’t have big mule deer anymore. Something serious needs to be done to keep violators in check."
The thing that ranked highest: “Option D) Sock it to ‘em. Confiscate the entire ATV, and loss of hunting privileges for a year. Problem solved. (37.7%).â€
