My latest project

Picked this up a couple weeks ago. Needs some time put into it before summer. The hull needs sanded and buffed, and all the interior vinyl needs to be replaced.

The specs: 1990 20' VIP 20th Aniv. Ed., 302 HO, Cobra outdrive. Should top out at about 65, comfortable cruise about 40. I can't wait to get it on the water!!

Spent some time wet sanding the hull today ...

Sanding is going to get treated like autobody, started with 400 grit, going to work up to 2000, then buff with heavy cut compound and top with a filler wax. It's going to look smokin' when it's done!!

Hmm, Dave is calling a boat run. That would qualify as a no locker run.
Okay, we're a little crazy to have a Duramax for a daily driver. But if we go off our meds, we might wind up in a Prius.

I'm down for a no tires run. Even a camping trip to Charbonneau or something!

I'm still under the delusion that this isn't going to end up a whole in the water, lol. I'm started with a smokin' deal on it, so at least I'm ahead at this point.

Campsites at Charboneau fill up fast after the first of the year. :( If we want to plan a "no tires run/meeting" there, we better discuss it at the next meeting.

Here's my 1973 hole in the water.....not really, bought it for $800, 8 yrs ago. It was sitting in a field in BC for 3 yrs before I bought it.
A lot of rubbing, new cheapo seats & marine carpet, all new hoses, impeller, and a carb kit is basically all I have done to it. The inline 6 just keeps on going....just not very fast. :oops: (40 tops), but it pulls a tube fine, and the fish can't see it. :D

Seen the red VIP go by my house a couple times on its trailer yesterday.
Was not sure if it was on its way to the boat launch, or to Tim's house for diagnostics. :D

Looks like it is working quite well. 8)

I would like to get the windshield tinted this year. Jafo, where did you have yours done? :shock: Oh, nevermind. :D

Where do you live, Dave?? I've been running it down to the ramp to test and tune. I don't like running it on the muffs in the driveway. My windshield came from the factory tinted 8)

We live close enough to the water that I can see it out my window, but far enough away that I don't have to be a millionaire to live here. :D

I'm shopping Upholstery installers right now. Anyone have any suggestions for someone who does good work at a decent price??

If I can get a good upholstery guy I'd let them have some creative freedom with the design.

Might give heards upholstery in Prosser a jingle.. Old school shop that did some really good work back in the day, haven't seen anything lately now that I don't live there.

Talked to Kenny, super nice guy and I've heard he does nice work ... prices are waaay out of the ballpark.
