I've lost brakes (twice.) There are better times than others for that. Steering? Ah, I think if you are moving you are screwed.

I'd like to know who made those wheels... They were aluminum right? I had a set on my old yota and they were nearly impossible to get the beads off of... Strong wheels too! :D

Me too. I loaned them to my dad, but when he sold his CJ he forgot to get them off. Aluminum, I assume, but they were sold to me as being magnesium. Mag wheels = magnesium. I was but a kid. They probably held their bead that night and other times because those bias ply Mickey Thompsons had inner tubes in ‘em. Every wheel was stuffed with grass, but fully inflated.

If those were true magnesium they'd have shattered on that roll... :lol:


Back in the day magnesium wheels were the shizzle on race cars.. My uncle's 67 Z/28 still runs them in the vintage series he races.

They were off of a race rig from that vintage. I bought them from Frank Schamp of camp Schamp fame. He raced them on a Bronco, I believe.

If you are looking at the coopers I saved over a 100.00 by buying the tires in Pasco instead of Kennewick.I was getting the tires on the RV rotated last week and seen some of those trail diggers,good looking tire,US made,but only a 2 ply side wall.

The Trail Diggers are not available in a 35/12.50/15. It seems that a lots of tire brands are limiting their tire sizes for 15" rims.

First off, I love how Stevie's thread got hijacked to hell!!! :lol:
And Steve, there's a guy on the hook already, but if he backs out, I am putting my 37" Pitbulls and 15x10 6 lug wheels up for sale.

tobyw that is a 44 in the front? I thought it was a 30? wow if so that makes me alittle bit more nervous about my set up.

The only difference between a 30 and a new 44 is the center section. The shafts are the same.

Running 35"s you might want to put chromemollys up front. If nothing else that would give you you factory axles as spares.

To clarify, the "next generation" D44's that the JK Rubi's use do actually have upgraded shafts, with a large-ish U-joint that is specific only to the JK D44 shaft, ie very expensive to replace.

And yes Dale, mine is only a D30. I would not think twice about your current setup, should be fine for many years of responsible wheeling :wink:

Should have clarified pre JK... But that is a moot point as your X has a 30 front anyway.

Isn't the rear JK 33 spline or something of the sort?
