Thanks Grumpy as I'm getting a bit bent here...
First I stated what i was working with , not a discussion of eaton axles.
Second, I asked repeatedly "Will these leaf packs work " instead i get more bs...

I'm on another forum and i think i'll stay there, too much of a "click " going on here. Obviously you dont care for new members ~

I wish I could help, but I know nothing about truck axle brake lines.

Believe it or not, it is a great group of guys here (and gals).

Meh, the brake line question was answered in the beginning and the leaf spring answer is subjective. Can it work sure, will it be the bestest spring in the whole wide world? How in the sam hill should I know if a fiberglass leaf spring will work under an s-10 blazer or not? I'm just a dumb truck driver that can make things work, I'm not God by any leap of the imagination so believe it or don't there are some things I just don't know.

Roy if you want to try the spring great, if not, chances are the dimensions are the same as every other ford truck on the road so they can be swapped to a standard multi-leaf spring with no issue. Is that what you needed to hear?

If you don't like my answers great, want to call me a jerk that's great too but don't let anything I say or do reflect on the rest of the group here. Notice it doesn't say club member under my name as I'm just a user on this site and resident smart a$$.

Also, for the brake lines, you can go to Central Hose in Pasco and they can make you any length you need. I'm not a big fan of braided lines in general, so I would go with factory rubber along with steel tube.

As far as the leaf springs, I would try and sell them and buy some steel leaves. They will flex pretty well if your S10 is super heavy, but there are a couple of problems with them:

1. They are going to be super stiff for load carrying on a 3/4 ton truck.
2. Guys that used them in the past had trouble with abrasion and subsequent damage. Never seen them on an S10. I think it is very cool to build an S10 though. . .

As for the thread: WT is a dlck with a heart bigger than his brain and Roman has a short attention span. No ill will was intended by either and both have forgotten more about our little sport than most people will ever know. So. . .if trashy says your axle is weak, it IS and if he offers you something better for almost no money. . .take it? Sheesh. . .he is being a good ambassador for our site and our sport by helpin' out a new guy.

We're all in this together. Free advice is exactly that. . .free!!! Chill out.

i'm going to try to stick around for a bit.

I've been a regular on S-10 extremeist, I get simple answer to my questions . I'm not trying to buy other axles or re-design what I wish to build.

Yes, as far as the brake lines I used steel lines. Trashy said it best: wouldnt want to snag something and lose youre brakes.

I'm a simple kinda of guy with alot of knowledge myself, but its always nice to hear other opinions. Roy

Okay, so, we seem to have things back somewhat on track, and there will be info forthcoming. One just has to consider the source  Roy, thanks for coming back on. Really, these dickheads are okay. They have no respect for the elderly, though :lip:

With my Dad, it was sand rails and a 3B. Started for me about 1959-60 when he got his first sand rig...

My s-10 blazer is a two door model (84) and i've already cut the back off for a roll cage ( 6 pt. type ) with a spare carrier in back ( old swing away donor).

Thats why i went the fiberglass leafs as there isnt much body weight. I dont plan on doing anything extreme at all , rather some solid for summer fun !

Ive already in the process of doing half doors, interior has been gutted except the stereo :)

If anyone wants to see pics :http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewAlbums&friendID=478337970

The 465/203 is a rare find, it was offered in '74 only... If you want to build a double case setup don't limit yourself, you can cut up that stock case and put another case behind it with no problems. I'm running a hybrid A340/AW4 auto with a 231j crawl box with a dana 300 behind it in my Toyota, :D

The fiberglass springs most likely won't flex as good as you think but as I said give them a go and if they don't work out for ya the specs should be the same as ranger/broncoII/F series etc. All of which will work well depending on how you build them.

Yeah, the fiberglass leaves may be lighter in weight, but I wouldn't count on them being as soft as you think. Still, it would be pretty darn interesting to see so. . .GO FOR IT.

Why specifically a 203? Why not a 465/205 combo?

I was informed that the old skool 203 / 4 speed would be a direct bolt in. Lots of around from the 60's still. I think I found one in moses lake. Since i'm using full size axles and to keep it simple...

Doubler ? I have no exp with and I really dont think I will need one for playing on trails, etc. I'm not trying to build anything comp. wise , just simple and strong. My lil 2.8 v-6 is no 350 hp pony!!

Just for Trashy !

Postby RoysRide » Sun Apr 18, 2010 10:48 am

most of youre post goes over my head... I'm not a 4x4 guy but I am a gearhead so please excuse my lack of knowledge concerning "cutting up cases "...please explain youre thought process.
As I understand it "IF" i hads used ford axles the drop would have been on the samr side. BUT, since I went chevy for chevy, my drop now is on the wrong side.....Hence the ol skool 4 speed trans and 203 ? 205 ? trans case .

A mid to late 80's dodge half ton will have a passenger drop 231 that will bolt up behind the transmission in your rig right now. You'd just need to swap the input gear out of your existing transfer case to bolt it up.

The 203 was never offered in the 60's it didn't come out until the early 70's what someone told you was to use a sm420 or sm465 mated to a 205. That's a good combo either way but the problem is you have a 60* V6 which means it has a 60* specific bolt pattern and neither of those old 4 speeds was ever offered with a 60* engine.

As far as the doubler I have one and it wasn't that big of a deal to assemble, I've built a bunch of Toyota double case setups and now I just did my first 231/300. Fun stuff. :D

Trashy ~

Postby RoysRide » Sun Apr 18, 2010 12:50 pm

So what youre saying is to get myself out of the predicament i have is to use a 231 drop ? which, after changing the input shaft ? ( from what source ?) Thanks for the claification ...!

Al you have to do is get a 231 or 241 out of a mid to late 80's dodge and take it partially apart to change the input out out of your existing transfer case. The dodge case should already have a yoked rear out put rather than the slipyoke that is so common on that same era chevy/ford/jeep.
