In 70 or 71 AMC enlarged its engine displacement the 290 became the 304,the 343 became the 360,and the 390 became the 401. A lot of 390s were performance engines and should out run a 401

Theres a factoid I had no idea about. I always figured someone swapped badges on the V8/4speed gremlin in the prosser wrecking yard..

i think some of the AMXs came with 390s also

the amx's did come with 390's the javelin sst's came with 401's. i hated selling that car.

the worst part is what i sold it for! was transfering out of new jersey and could not take it with, left it behind for a friend to sell. after months the best he could get was $800. was a sad day.
