...I'd just figure it was your superior driving skills.
Okay, we're a little crazy to have a Duramax for a daily driver. But if we go off our meds, we might wind up in a Prius.

I just want it to APPEAR that way. . .in reality, I'll be eating a taco with one hand, drinking a soda with the other and adjusting the stereo with the other. . .

A lot. Been awhile since I weighed it, but GVWR is 4750 lb... that is with hardtop and doors, but I imagine with the winch, lock box and stuff it weights that with the soft top.

Okay, I just dug up real numbers... it is 4460 lb with doors and hard top with my butt out of the seat. That is how it sat when I did the lift etc. 3 years ago.

I'm going to run mine across the scales, but I think it is around 3300 with a full tank of gas. The new tires/wheels are lighter than the stockers. . .

I ran mine across the scale we had set up at the Tractor Pull at the Fairgrounds last year. 3500 with me in it, and I weigh close to 200. I think your number is very close, maybe just a tad low.

And now, I have a better approach angle, more tire clearance, and I have added a mystery traction enhancer. . .

Or did I just discover it? Either way. . .

Transfer Case is wounded. Not busted, but wounded. Pops really, really bad under a load. Needs a new one. . .

That and some other non-mods will follow.

It still cleaned Aardvark in the mud. . .

Dont know if it will help, but I have a 241 'case you can rob parts from if you want.

Depending on application that is a great swap. Factory wide chain and 6 planetary gears vs 231's 3. The input sun gear is held in the planetary unit by a single internal snapring so swapping it is a breeze.

No writeup that I'm aware of I just know what works. They are basically the same case overall but the 241 is the supersized version to have a higher weight/torque capacity for the full sized market. The case is thicker, the chain upgraded along with the planetaries etc. The only variable I can think of that may cause an issue is factory clocking pattern. The yokes etc are all easily sourced in the aftermarket if needed.

So, is it better to use the whole 241 case or should I consider swapping the guts? I have a clocking ring so that isn't an issue. . .

I got all excited there for a minute. . .

Thinking that I'm going to just source a 231 and change it out.

Reason: I just don't need the 241 swap with my little 31s and stock axles.

This would not have been an easy "swap" anyway. It is from a Chevy, so the bolt pattern (5), input shaft diameter, and clocking are different. I just figured that if your chain was bad, you could swap those and get a beefier chain setup. Not sure, but I think the chain setups and planetary's are interchangeable.

No, not at all.

1996 has a completely different mainshaft than a 1993. Guts had to be swapped. Found some interesting things. Made it all work.

Thanks toby for. . uh. . .yeah.

Huh, that's odd. I used a 96 231 as a crawl box behind a 93xj Aw4 with zero issues.
