The W doesn't even feel it...the challenge is keeping it under 65 to not blow out the damn tires. Orville has no issue. . .plus, he thinks its sexy.

Most importantly, no more sleeping on the damn ground. Back to my roots when we pulled a canned ham behind the Bronco or the CJ5. . .straight up old school yo. . .

Lee sold me. . .blame him.

Okay, we're a little crazy to have a Duramax for a daily driver. But if we go off our meds, we might wind up in a Prius.

Lift = spring over axle. . .about $12 in parts from Ranch/Home for about 5" of lift.

If it feel it becoming an issue, SOA will get the nod. . .I'll stick with trailer tires though. MTs bring the suck for drag.

The Fleet. . .

I am going to pick up a little longer drop hitch tomorrow. The W's hitch is a LOT lower than Orville's. The one that is on there is a 3" drop. . .I'm thinkin' 5". Logic: hitch is 16" to the ground, tail end is 12" (both bottom of frame measurements. . .subtract and split the diff. . .then subtract from the current drop. . .5" sounds right.

Good point. He has his heavy a$$ tool box, but not the coolers and such. The shank on this hitch is too long to hook up the safety chains so I have to get a new one anyway. . .maybe I'll just go 4".

Also, the longer the drop, the further away the shank will be. Better off lengthing your chains.

Forget the hitch drop, I agree with the SOA idea. You will need some blocks for your stabilizer jacks to reach the ground, though. It will allow you to take the trailer in a whole lot more places if it's higher. It will also make it that much more difficult for the bears to crawl up in there at night... :shock:

And for about $700 in parts and 2 hours labor, I can put an AC on that roof. :D

Those are really great campers, if you dont mind the pop-ups. I had one with all the bells and whistles, but found it such a pain to open and close, especially when loading/unloading for a trip.

This one goes up with the flick of a switch and down just as easy....

Forgot to mention one thing about my current hitch. It is an extended length dealio. That's why the chains don't reach.

Wrench, I need to pick up a couple of tires for it. Where? They are load range d 20.5x8x10.....

Can't do the soa right now. It is coming to KOH with me in six days time.....

Yeah, the trailer I had was electric hoist too, even had heated mattress pads. :D It was still a lot of work.

Best I can think of for tires is to check Schwabby's or see if the trailer tires on the shelf at Walmart will fit (the ones that are on the wheels already). You can often get those for nearly the same price as new tires/mounted/balanced.

And that SOA should be less than a 2 hour job. 6 days is MORE than enough. :P

If you do the SOA you will also have the clearance to install a larger diameter wheel tire combo as mentioned above.

I'd be FAR less concerned about the speed rating of the tires vs the speed those poor little wheel bearings are doing down the road with those tiny tires on there...

SOA and 14" wheels would solve everything in one fell swoop. [/list]

Do yourself a favor and at least repack the wheel bearings before making the trip. It's cheap insurance.

agreed last time i did one of our works trailers it allowed me to find that the one shackle was broke but still faking it and that the rear bearings were toast (back axle on a tri-axle go figure right)

Ranch and Home in Kennewick has shackle, shackle bolts and mounted trailer tires. I wouldn't use their wheel bearings. Check out Six States for hubs with the races installed (about $30). Consider packing an extra 6-States' hub that is all setup and vacuumed sealed.
