Well current situation aside, Life is good! I got my ARB Air Compressor installed, I now can go from four flats to rolling in 16 mins... Gotta love technology... :yahoo

But I do have a question, I'm thinking of adding a 1 gallon storage tank to the system, not sure where I'll get the tank from yet or what advantages it will add, so who knows about these things? :?

A one gallon tank is a "buffer" for your compressor. With it installed and a good sealed system, you can fill your tank once in the morning and rely on it to actuate your air locker all day long without the compressor running.

For filling tires, it isn't going to make much of a difference and a little tank won't really help you run air tools.

No Worries. . .

Another thing to consider with a tank is the ability to get a "burst" of air to seat a bead. No sure if a 1 gallon tank would be big enough, but I would certainly help.

I was considering one of the inflatable straps to help set beads by squashing the middle inward, forcing the bead closer to the rim...

I more finite air guage, mine stop reading around 6 lbs..

So if I'm using Synthetic oil when installing gears, why do I need the L/S additive? Second I know I gotta 500 mile break-in period, do I have to do it in 4Hi or does the front get broken in same as the back w/o being in 4wd? :?:

I have a 5-gallon propane tank that has been emptied and the valve removed, converted to an air tank. If you want it, you can have it.

Today we venture into gearhead territory, replacing my 4.10 gears with 5.13s in my axles... So far I'm working solo, gonna be a long weekend! Anybody who wants to stop by and give their two cents is welcome...

:banghead

Currently I'm fighting with the driveshaft removal on the rear, my helper can't be here til 8 pm, so it may be an all nighter...

Lance - are you sure you currently have 4.10's in your JK? It's a relatively rare factory option for 2007 JK's with the tow package (of course all Rubi's had 4.10's, but IIRC yours is a Sahara??)? At any rate, just making sure you aren't going to try and put 5.13's on a set of 3.73 carriers, because that isn't going to work out too well for you...
Yep, I've wheeled one of those, too...

Get a piece of schedule 80 PVC pipe that is 3 or 4" in diameter and cap the ends off. Drill and tap 3/8" pipe thread holes in the side (one for a drain, one for the hose connection. You can custom-make it any length you want and fit it nearly anywhere, it is light weight and schedule 80 is good for up to 300psi in 4" / 400psi in 3" (operating pressure).

Okay, the pipe salesman has to speak up...PVC gets used for air a lot, but the manufacturers don't want their product used that way. It's meant for use with fluids only.

. . and the safety guy chimes in. . .

Using PVC for compressed air in commercial applications is illegal unless it is guarded. The dealio is that if PVC fractures under pressure then it explodes like a frag grenade.

You can use some types of ABS that have "approved for compressed gas" or some other type of confirmation printed on them.

Practically, PVC as an air tank should be fine as long as you put it someplace that is protected, like between a skid plate and the body. I'd also advise keeping it empty when you are doing work on the rig in that general area.

Wear your safety glasses and a life jacket. . .and 2x condoms.

Gears are complete, unfortunately the rear pinion seal was not up to the task, so I ended up buying a better one and reinstalling it. lee thanks for the loan of your impact gun, it's been used up... I can bring it to you or you can swing by and grab it.

Next the banging in the front end... My kit came with hockey puck bumpstop extensions that we chose not to use, in favor of getting extended soft stops. Unfortunately, we had intended to grab these at the swap meet in Puyallup, but they weren't there. So we forgot all about it. I've since puchased a set of Terraflex extended stops and will be installing them momentarily.

Nobody said Jeep build-ups were fireman proof, and I proved they're not! :banghead

Looking good Lance. 8) You will love the new gears and I hope you will be as amazed as I was at the difference on and off road.

So, no Spartan up front?

I have the same thinking that I would rather have an ARB up front to match the ARB in my rear axle.
But, the Jeep fund is not even close this year to what it was last year. In fact, it's almost non-existent. :D

So, I think I've decided. Fuggit, I'm going to throw some shafts and a Spartan at my D30.

Seems to be working great in Jimmy's popcorn machine. But, there is the loose nut behind the wheel factor.

Since the rear Spartan pops and crackles all the time. . .popcorn is still valid.

I resemble your remark. . .

I've had a Spartan on the front of mine for over a year now. And I am still running the cheesy little-u-joint axles.

Gears, are broke in, oil changed, new steering stabilizer, Diff protection and Evap Skid all installed plus the best of all cheap mods ROCK LIGHTING!

We found a write up by the Project JK guys on these cool little $18 light sets that work perfectly for undercarriage lighting for night wheelin.'

So I'm off to Liberty, in route I need to find a lighted Large rocker switch and possibly a relay, not sure if 4 55w bulbs will work on a switch, but we'll know soon enough.

Catch ya on the return trip, and I'll get the pics up by Monday or Tuesday. I'm way late rolling out!

Best Mod Ever! Second only to the onboard ARB air compressor.

55 multiplied by 4 divided by 10 equals no, that cheap chinese parts store rocker switch won't live powering a 22 amp load. Especially through the crap 18 gauge wire they are powered with. I always run lights in pairs with relays and fused power no substitutions.

What Trashy said...I burnt up the front of a '68 GMC by not having a relay on the landing lights I had in the high beams :banghead But then, not all 22 year olds know everything

If you are flying by a parts store, O'Reiley does have a kit that includes a relay and a switch along with all the wiring for two lights. 30A Relay and I think 20A fuses on 14G wire. Good for a pair of 55W lights.

But. . .please use relays and fuses. . .I've seen junk burn because of overloading wires and such.
