Bought my Jeep in 2004 new and finally had to swap out the top as it was getting ragged at 8+ years.
I've noticed since the beginning that my soft top never seemed to fit exactly right. I was stupid enough to take the dealer's word that it was normal. I never had any leak issues but things just didn't seem to match up right and there were spots that seemed too loose.
Well today I figured out why. There are supposed to 14 screws that hold the fabric into the header up front. My stock top was missing 7 of them. They didn't just back out either. There are no holes in the fabric at those 7 locations meaning there was never any screws there. Also my hardware didn't match up right. The other top that I swapped in had all 14 screws in. Guess my Jeep's soft top was put together on a Friday at 4pm.
