XJ steering upgrade ?s

Postby SquirrelCrusher » Sun Nov 04, 2012 8:42 am

My track bar tie rod is shot. Instead of getting another crappy tiny tie rod that will last 6 months or so I've been looking at upgrades. I also want to upgrade to stronger steering.

Option 1 - double sheer track bars like Iron Rock Off-road ($210 shipped) and 1 ton steering kit JCR sells. ($340)

Option 2 - Froehlich Suspension Technology is a company in Yakima. The hiem high-steering steering sells for 325. Track bar and over the axle weld-on track bar mount.

Any input recommendations? I drive my jeep on the road a lot and wheel a little bit. Mainly out at juniper. Hopefully next year I'll do some more wheeling around Dayton

Track bar or tie rod? Or both? As far as the tie rod goes,

A tie rod from a V8 powered ZJ (Grand Cherokee) was a direct swap for my TJ. It is much thicker and stronger than my old little skinny stock tie rod. I think I paid $100 for the rod, ends and adjuster.

Should be the same for an XJ, I would think. :?:

It's a rough county adjustable track bar with a tie rod on the unibody side

The IRO double sheer dealio and the aforementioned ZJ V8 steering would be the ticket.

I have little to no fabbing skills and even less time. Police academy until mid-March so weekends only.

The JCR kit is actually on sale now for 269 so if they still have some on the 15th I think I will get it just to he done with it.
