Buick 225 transmission swap suggestions

I'm helping a neighbor sort out a good swap for the Buick 225 in his CJ-5. The T-98 is toast. How tough is an SM420 with the dana 18 transf?

Must be Mike's cj? I know there are a bazillion of them out there set up like that. Whenever we have the time to get up to dads the 420 is coming out of the 58 when I scrap it. Shifts smooth and doesn't make any noise that I've heard over the truck.

Ya, it's Mikes. I'll read into that SM420 swap more. I'm assuming it's 2wd.

There's a cj in my garage with one in it behind the 258

The sm420 never existed in stock married form with a t case so yes its a 2x trans. That jeep was doing fine for all those years till he screwed up the firing order and started throwing money at that engine trying to fix it. Then along came some dumb yotard with an eye for random details to see his faux pas and make that little beast run.

If you can't find another T-98, then an SM-420 is by far the best bet. In terms of a manual transmission swap, it doesn't get much simpler.

What about the T18 Ford trans? Believe it's a close relative of the T-98.
The T18 is also a little more compact than the SM420 that hangs low.
