Nope. It is a 27-spline stub, as it should be. Just looks like the machining wasn't done deep enough or wasn't finished correctly out to the end.
Okay, we're a little crazy to have a Duramax for a daily driver. But if we go off our meds, we might wind up in a Prius.

Not looking good for our hero (I'm the hero by the way.) The newly arrived outer goes part-way into the unit bearing(s). I think they are supposed to go all the way. I'll make this one work and I'll update the whole story when it is done, but recommending 10-Factory and Northridge 4x4 does not appear to be on the radar.

They just are poorly machined. These will go in all but about 1/2 an inch.
No rust / crud / etc. All other (2 old and one new) outer stubs go in easily.

X2. I've had plenty of issues with aftermarket parts (I've also have had many great aftermarket parts). Lee's deal is a classic example why you should pay with a credit card outfit that will stand behind you if the quality of the purchase gets goofy. You would think that these guys would test fit their shafts in both a new hub and used hub before shipping them out.TJDave wrote:Well that just plain bites.

No. Not even ctm does that. They use actual hard measurements and a random sampling of parts to ensure they are in spec. Buying from foreign companies is hit and miss 100% of the time so these things happen. I'd think that at least Northridge would take care of the issue even if ten factory won't.

Neither inner short shaft will go in the differential. The factory one (broken) slides right in and the long side 10-Factory does as well. The two short sides (yeah I'm getting to have a pile of worthless 10-Factory parts) only go in past the seal and let me turn the diff, but they are at least an inch from going all the way in.
(I know that there are a whole bunch of 'That's what she said' jokes here, but let's keep it mature.)

On another forum, someone is saying they had to 'persuade' the axle in. I'm really not wanting to tear up a locker to get a poorly machined axle in. I've tapped it with a deadblow, but it just seems to jam in, not be persuaded.

We talked about that trick during our last meeting. It might work, but could make a trail fix a real pain. It's probably best to get a better fitting axle.

Would taking the shaft to someone who can clean up the spline be an option. Send the bill to 10 factory asking for reimbursement since their crappy quality was at fault.

And not because I took Trashy's advice either (Goddamn I hate when that man is right.) I'll post my findings, suffice it to say for now the weather slowed me down more than 10-Factory or Northridge 4x4.
