Tow pig

Postby Lurch » Thu May 23, 2013 6:32 pm

Yes it's mine. It's a super clean 04' f-350 dually. I bought it to fix and flip. To be honest I'm really tempted to keep it and sell my old truck. Not real firm on the price but gotta start some where :) If you have any questions feel free to ask. I also have a high end banks programmer for it that I did not include in the posting.

Here's a link to the Craigslist ad.

neat truck. There are so many 6.0 trucks out there, but I've been to nervous to purchase one due to the bad press. I wish I knew the true story about the 6.0. What needs fixing on the 6.0 to make it a long running motor?

They have a couple week points. First is the egr cooler. When they go they leak coolant into the intake. Another is the turbo has variable vains that help with turbo lag. The bad is they stick then over boost. When that happens the head bolts stretch and blow the head gaskets. When they blow they push coolant out of the coolant resivor. They don't get any coolant in the oil, i have never seen a bottom end go out in one of these. They can also have high pressure oil system leaks which will cause them to be hard to start, lack of power or even not start at all. Ocarionally you have fuel injectors or fuel injector control modules fail but no more then any other diesel. Once these have been fixed they are a great engine. Overall I like how they perform. They make great power and you can't beet the torque shift transmission that is behind them.
I fixed pretty my h all of these problems on this one. I wouldn't offer it to friends and club members if I didn't feel totally confident that it is a great rig.

To be honest I have considered keeping his truck and selling my 7.3l cause it is just that nice!!

If you did happen to find a 6.0 you were considering feel free to get a hold of me. I have no problem checking g it out to see if it's a decent rig.

i second the 6.0 with a few mods they become reliable, there are aftermarket idms that are supposed to be better than oems (for durabuility) i think that this exact rig would last a long damn time

I built it as if I was gonna keep it. Went with a bullet proof egr cooler instead of a delete. It's still emissions legal and won't cause a check engine light if you don't run a programmer. They are built very well and will never leak.

If the ficm (idm) ever failed I would have my extra one gone through. You can have them rebuilt and upgraded for a pretty resonable price.

For the FICM.... This guy turns them around pretty fast.

I've heard the most frequent killer of the FICM is bad/dead batteries.

That's good and all but not all that he says is true. Yes the new factory pieces are spendy. But they are upgraded to much better parts. I've never had the new updated ficms go out.

That being said I would probably look into having one rebuilt and upgraded to produce higher voltage for better cold start run ability.

Good to know. Didn't realize they put out better FICM units from the factory.

Sure is Purdy. Way out of my price range though.

So glad I saw it but didn't test drive it. If I had the money it would be a tough choice between it and my current truck which I really love.
