Need a big axle

Postby mattawajeep » Tue Aug 27, 2013 10:42 am

So, we've got a toasted spindle on the rear axle of our tow truck at work.

I know this is a long shot, but if anyone has something like this, or knows where to get one I'll gladly buy it.

It's a 1991 Chevy 3500 HD - with what I believe is a 10 lug Rockwell C103.

I'd like to get a new Rockwell, or a later model year 1992-1996ish 10 lug Dana 80 as I think it will bolt up.

Just a little different 10 lug pattern. The F-superduty 10 lug is small pattern the rockwell 103 is 10 lug semi.

Your best bet for a replacement axle is going to be under a bread truck or to call spaldings heavy truck yard in Spokane.

EDIT: On second thought call up the hagermans truck yard in hermiston, they'd probably have what you need.

I found a Rockwell 103 on ebay that will work for $1000. I'll call the places you mentioned and see what I can find - cheaper and local would be a bit easier.

I tried searching around for a Dana 80, but most as you mentioned are small pattern 10 lug, or 8 lug, and the ones that aren't seem to be $2000 and up. Silly tow truck just had to be oddball.
