Trailer tires

Planning on wheeling in October and it looks like my bias ply trailer tires may or may not have one more trip left in them. I have 2 spares for it.

So what do you all recommend I go with? Radials or Bias Ply

It's your typical 7'x16' trailer with two 3500 lb axles.

The size I'm looking for is 205x75R15. Where should I be looking for a set of these?

Most trailer specific tires are craptastic at best so I just run a heavier rated take off from pasco auto wrecking or craigslist etc. Stepping up to a 16" wheel opens up a world of cheap D & E rated tires.

I've had a very mixed bag with ST (trailer) tires over the years... A few sets were, as WT mentioned, miserable. Two other sets I can think of, including those currently on my flatbed, have been just fine. I think the killer for trailer tires is weight and neglect. We (ok maybe it's just me) often overload our poor trailers, and don't often czek the tire pressure, let alone rotate/balance them. After a particularly nasty blowout coming back from Colorado a few years back, I am now a stickler for trailer tire maintenance, and I'm about to replace my current ST's with another set, likely from Les Schwab. My old man always said "find the best tire you think you can afford, then wait one more paycheck and buy better ones."

I was able to score lance a pretty nice set for a decent price. They are the same ones I'll be putting on mine soon. Can't remember the details but ask lance, he should be able to tell ya.

If you are sticking with 15" ST tires go with Goodyear marathons. Tirerack.com had a good price last time I got some.

Maxxis.... The largest set that you can clear. Don't go to Perfection Tire on Union Street for anything. Their tires, prices and service are not good.

It seems that bias tires scuff and wear funny, where as radial tires just fall apart with little advanced warning. If you can afford it, replace the tires every five years and maintain the proper air pressure to reduce the chances blow out / tread separation.

I didn't know Maxxis made a trailer tire. Looks like they make a 6ply, 8ply, and even a 10 ply in the 225 75 R15 size. I can get a set for 400 shipped online, not bad.

I run 235.70r15 lt tires for my bumper pull. In my opinon triler tires are crap my old work I was always replacing trailer tires. I've never had a problem and since my dad switched to lt tires he hasn't had an issue either

$400 for the set sounds like a very good deal to me. I generally spend about $120 per tire local prior to mounting and tax. The 8 and 10 ply sounds good. From reading the Airstream Forum, it sounds like Maxxis is one of the top tires of choice.
