2004 Grand Cherokee problem

Postby TJDave » Wed Nov 27, 2013 4:45 pm

Need some help. My Niece and nephew from Spokane are having tranny issues with their 2004 Grand Cherokar. 4.7 V8. Entering town, the cruise kicked off and tranny seems like it's slipping. CEL came on at same time.
They just had tranny flushed serviced about 3 mo ago. I checked fluid, it seems ok.
Not sure what to look for or how to check codes. Anyone know?
They have to head out in the morning and just want to make sure they get back safe.

Thanx.

The parts stores can check codes for you...

As far as words of wisdom, I'm out! That thing is a whole different beast the Mine or Jafo's ZJ's...

You try turing the key on and off 3 times? That'l bring up codes on the same era TJ dash.

P0325

Knock sensor (# 1) signal above or below minimum acceptable threshold voltage at particular engine speeds.

P0121 (M)

Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Range/Performance Problem

Unplug everything electronic on the throttle body and clean/check the connections. That's the easy check for the tps. You'll have to look up the MAF location, it's probably right there as well, but I've seen them remote.

Also check the actual gas pedal, and see if it has any wires going to it and their condition, the APPS sensor thing makes me think it's possible, but it could be combined with the TPS. I dunno.

Also, since the problem seemed to be transmission related you might want to look at this thread for a worst case scenario.

Hopefully it's just a bad connection, or harness junction. But, you might want to dig deeper.

OK. Thank you for the help. Ran and got a TPS sensor before the parts store closed for T-Day. Put it in, cleaned all the connectors. CEL is off now.

I would have to say Dale is the Hero.

They text on the way back to Spokompton that the Grand was running perfect again.

They thought it was pretty cool when I hopped on the site and asked. They love the banners too.
I think they are wanting a trail rig now. 8)
