Instead of braving the crowds of ghosts and goblins roaming the neighborhoods in search of the elusive full-size Snickers bars, we decided to czek out the happenings at elevation. In on this poor decision making process were OG, Paul, Dryside and the lovely Mrs. Dryside, and yours truly accompanied by the CFO of Wilcox Phab/Pharming/Screen Doors, LLC. As expected as it may have been, the sheer quantity of "hunters" was mind boggling, and we lucked into what may have been the only available spot in the entire expanse of the greater Little Naches area, tucked away in a corner of the Lost Meadow campground:
We awoke Saturday morning to what appeared to be some dense fog, but it turns out it was smoke from nearby prescribed burns trapped in the canyon:
After a leisurely breakfast, we headed for Raven's Roost via the Pipeline trail. As we gained elevation, the smoke thinned and the snow appeared:
Everyone hopped off the trail at the second-to-last exit except for Paul, who fought the good fight up to the very last exit prior to the final climb to the radio towers:
We all reconvened at the summit and soaked in the views:
With lunch calling, we beat feet back down the hillside and made our way back to camp. En route, we took a quick detour on a previously unexplored side road and found Narnia:
Back at camp, we went on our second wood run and setup shop for another chilly night around the campfire:
Sadly, as most good things do, our trip concluded Sunday morning as we begrudgingly packed up and headed back home. Overall it was a fantastic relaxing weekend in the mountains, spent with good food, friends, and aside from the smoke, fantastic ambiance.
