I've been on the lookout for a cheap car that gets good mpg because whenever my jeep is down I end up driving the diesel (at 489 a gallon) or riding the motorcycle (which is fun but sucks when you do it every day and won't be good in the winter).
I've considered an old escort, honda, geo, ect. Are there any others ones that would be reilable? Looking for cheap ones.
What's a good reliable daily driver?

I've got an old ex-Forest Service Cherokee, manual trans, and it's what I use for my daily driver and trips over to visit my mother in Moscow. I get 22 on the highway on the uphill run over there with it, and 24 on the downhill return trip. The automatics don't do so well though. And you can find Cherokee's around for pretty decent prices. And I like them cause you can still carry stuff in them. But then maybe you want one of the smaller things that gets better mileage than that. ??

Find yourself an older Subaru. Preferably '92 or newer. Legacy body not the old Loyale. A couple co-workers have picked these up for a few hundred. Of course not all of them are going to be as good as others. Plus, they may seem a bit intimidating to work on but first hand knowledge can help ya out. I would like to find one myself but haven't looked very hard at all.
I'm just one good rollover away from a tube buggy!

ditto!
Laugh if you want but my Sammy gets 21 MPG no matter how I drive it and is still a 4x4. When the wife took a highway trip with it she got 25MPG and was doing 80 at times. I myself am looking for a decent DD but for the price of a Zuk (at least the bargans I've gotten) I can't compare to anything else. Our '05 Civic gets 38+ MPG... then again it's an '05
