need T-15 or ???

Postby brady » Sun Jan 25, 2009 9:49 am

I have a 72cj-5 360 AMC and a worn-out T-15 3-speed that WILL-NOT stay in reverse. I have found a few T-15's that have been just as worn out as mine. So still looking for a T-15 or adapter for SM-420 or SM465 or T18 to D20 and bellhousing. I'm on a budget so I'm looking for used parts or a good deal. Thank's Brad.

I might have one. I will look next time I am near my parts pile. I am thinking that the syncros might not have been the best but it stayed in gear.

Good news..Bad news

I do still have my old T-15 but it has been sitting outside for a few months. Pretty sure it still has oil in it and it does spin freely in all gears. I will pull the top cover tomorrow and see what it looks like.

I think Toby is coming down here this weekend. Maybe you guys can talk him into transporting it. :)

You guys want to try to arrange something with Toby?

I don't need much for it. Let's see if we can arrange to get it to you and see if it will work for you, then we can figure out something.

I'll pick it up Sunday... Let's make sure we put it in BEFORE the party starts though

Brad - look me up next week sometime. You know where I live...
Yep, I've wheeled one of those, too...

So today I went with Brad to help rescue a treasure
and he showed me one of the trannys he looked at before. According to his books it's out of a late 70's CJ, a weaker option to the T150 that was avalible then, supposedly found mainly behind 4 cyl's

Here's the kicker, it has a D20 bolted to the back of it . . .

Now I don't mean "there's a cute little factory adapter" then a D20 behind that. I mean there is a D20 BOLTED to the back of this tranny!

This shouldn't be, right? What was it we were looking at, anyone?

Not sure about the '76 and later trans/D20s are like but.....

The T15 I have was bolted directly to the D20. There is a bull gear on the back to the T15 that slides right into the D20. I thought all jeep D20's were set up like this with the Texas bolt pattern.

Not on my '73 T15/D20. Bolted directly together.
