Putting a Rubicon NV241 Tcase into a regular TJ?
So with the locker problems fixed, (finally) anyone know the differences between the Rubicon Tcase and the NP231 found in the TJ's?
I was thinking a 4:1 and a slip yoke for my TJ but I'm seeing Rubicon Tcases going on EBAY for under a grand now. These already have a 4:1 and no slip yoke, and are much stronger than the NP231s anyway.
I have a feeling I'll have to change driveshafts (at least put a CV in the rear) or maybe find a combo u joint to run, but other than that I have no idea what it would take. I guess the rubicon T cases have electronic pickup for the speedo while my 04's is actually gear driven.

It will drop right in, but you'll need that new rear driveshaft. I happen to have one somewhere, but with your lift you'll want a CV anyways so it won't be of much use to you either. I believe there may be a slight difference in the electrical connector for the 4wd indicator in the dash, but certainly nothing a little solder and heat shrink can't fix. The Rubi case has some extra ribbing for reinforcement that might require a little love with the BFH on the tub or you're skid, but again certainly doable. I would say it would be money better spent than upgrading the 231.
Yep, I've wheeled one of those, too...

driveshaft
this is the one that I have if your looking for a driveshaft.

Got some research done. Note:Its a direct bolt in for 03+ Wranglers. 02 and Earlier TJ's require a little playing with the transmission mount and some cutting. This is definitely doable on mine. Found a good writeup on putting one in an XJ too.
Got a list of what I need besides the transfer case:
1) I can get 32 splined front yoke (w/oil slinger) for 1310 ujoints and reuse the front driveshaft. About 90 bucks from Tom Woods Driveshafts.
2) I'll need to get a CV driveshaft as the stock one will not work.
3) To get the 4wd indicator working: Dura last #SW4492 at Auto Zone for $38.99. Its a switch for an Chevy S10.
Also the pigtail part to go with it: AC DELCO part #PT724. These two things make it plug and play.
4) Hoping to go with the Rubicon transfer case linkage or modify my NP231's linkage.
5) For the speed sensor I have two choices. Either a Rubcion speed sensor or a speed sensor out of a 98-00 Wrangler that was also electronic. I'll have to tap into the stock wiring at the T case.
Stay tuned....

I'll definitely take em off your hands if you want to get rid of them. Found a Rubi Case on Ebay with the linkage for 925. I've seen them a little lower I may keep looking.
I was gonna convert my NP231 to a 4:1 and put an SYE on it but do that and you're up to $1500 and the NV241 is a lot stronger as they use it behind the V8 dodge trucks.

241 has more ribbing and 6 planetaries rather than 3 like a 231. the big upgrade on a 241R is it has a HUGE set of planetaries compared to even a standard 241.
Come and get the stuff before I toss it, we're just up williams blvd in Richland. You can't miss the big trailer parked next to the shop and the red car trailer parked out front on the street.

If you don't have a SYE yet do yourself a huge favor and do a 231/300 doubler. No too low or too high of a ratio as with a 4:1 or lower gear set. You can choose either 2.62:1, 2.72:1 or 7.13:1...
